SmartBoard Activity
I based my interactive white board activity on the Grade 8 Writing SOL, focusing on the 6.8 learning requirements, specifically focusing on subject-verb agreement.

f) Use quotation marks with dialogue.
g) Choose adverbs to describe verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.

For my SmartBoard Interactive Activity, I decided to begin by going over the list of helping verbs, focusing on a group of eight verbs for the activities. First, I wanted the students to identify these verbs as either singular or plural with the "Drag n' Drop." Then, I wanted the students to review simple subject-verb agreements with simple direct sentences pairing subject with verb with the interactive game where the students would come up and drag the correct verb in the sentence. Following, I introduce intervening phrases and clauses, focusing on prepositional phrases. The same interactive activity follows but now the sentences have prepositional phrases for the students to pay attention to.
This was my first SmartBoard Activity and even when I was in high school, I didn't have much experience interacting with one. I found the new updated SmartBoard Activity software relatively easy to use once you experiment with it a bit first. When designing this activity, I wanted to provide a lesson with it but keep it short and direct without too many words filling a slide. I provided three interactive activities to get students out of their seat and moving. Looking back I would want to incorporate more into the last interactive activity. Along with dragging the correct verbs to the sentence blanks, I would also want to have them identify the main subject and prepositional phrase of the sentence, most likely having them use the pen to do so. Overall, another great technology to add to my teaching toolbox.
