Technology Integrated Unit Plan

The 3 day unit plan I created for a 6th grade Language Arts classroom is for the Virginia 6.5 SOL. I wanted my unit plan to focus on poetry mainly because it's not a subject that is remembered too fondly by many students. My Unit Plan consists of 3 days of interactive activities introducing students to poetry and expose them to different types of poetry and authors in order to prepare them for a poetry anthology project.
I had my classmate Barbara Guy peer review my initial rough draft of the unit plan and two pieces of advice helped me to polish it up:
1. Barbara mentioned how she had no idea what an erasure poem was. I decided to include a brief PowerPoint showing examples of erasure poems so the students would have a guide for the activity. Also, Barbara mentioned how I should detail in the lesson plan what the students would be doing for the erasure poem activity. From her advice, I included a brief sentence explaining students will be using markers to black out text, leaving only words and phrases they find eye-catching for their poem.
2. While I listed the specific Virginia SOL my unit plan focuses on in the beginning, Barbara advised that I mention which parts of the SOL I will be addressing in each lesson since I'm not focusing on every detail of the SOL. So, I broke the SOL down and for each lesson, there is one to several bullet points of the SOL standard that the particular lesson addresses.
I enjoyed creating this unit plan and while I wondered how I could possibly find 3 days worth of interactive activities for poetry, it became easier as I began writing it. I will definitely use different aspects of this unit plan in my future lessons.
